Problem in changing Account Name, Password

Hi

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. When I try changing the account name, password in the SQL Server Configuration Manager, i.e. by clicking on Apply, the SQLEXPRESS restarts and the password gets replaced by a longer password. Also the user name gets prefixed with "./". Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Another query: Do we have the query analyser (gui or command line) kind of thing in Express Edition? Also where can I get a proper documentation of doing elementary things in setting up a database, like creating a database, adding a user, etc)

Thanks and Regards
Roopesh

For the pasword thing, the field is obfuscated with more chars than you entered, thats as planned.

There is a query edit built into express, just select file new query from the menu.

In terms of docs I recomend SQL Server Books On Line, which can be downloaded from the same place as you downloaded express.

|||

A few additional notes, if you've only downloaded Express Edition (not Advanced Services) you can get Management Studio Express separately from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/.

You can find some videos to help you understand some of the basics of database usage at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/learning/default.aspx. If you're interested in learning about a programming language, I'd recomend the Absolute Beginners series as well as some of the other learning resources that are language specific. (VB.NET C#)

Problem getting security for configuration database

Below is what I have put into an execute sql task container. When I try to run it I have output open and have posted the output. The code runs fine when I have the configuration database set up to only check one server. However, when I add anymore to it, the package will get the security from the first db and then error out. Not knowing your database names, I'd suspect that one or more of them have names that need to be bracketed in a SQL statement. The error indicates that one might have a hyphen in the name? Try putting brackets around the @.dbname variable. Ex: "from [' + @.dbName+'].dbo.sysmembers"|||I don't get why the SSIS package would work for one database then. I will try what you suggest though. What you have would work fine for a database named FooBar, but it would fail with the error you posted if the database were named Foo-Bar.

I"m sorry, I made a mistake in my last post. I meant to say it worked for one server, but won't work for any other server.

I think I have figured out one of the problems. I need to change the OLE DB Connection Manager. However, it won't let me do this and hit ok because it says that the table in my FROM clause is not in the database. Well of course its not on the database because the table gets built dynamically and the servers are gathered dynamically. How can I change this?

-Kyle

|||SSIS tries to validate the tasks when you are editing them; so I guess the table have to exists while you are editing the package. At run time though you can set DelayValidation to true; so the package does not fail validation.|||

The problem with this is that the connection I am trying to use is generated dynamically too. Thus, there are no servers until run time that I could add the table to to get around this error.

-Kyle

|||I don't get that. Does this mean you don't have a development environment where you can create oll required stuff? remebember this is just for validation purposes.|||

No, I have the proper development environment. I just get an error that says that the table doesn't exist whenever I try to make a change to the OLE DB connection. Here is the message I sent to the template creator yesterday.

I am having trouble with changing an OLE DB source. The package is set to not validate until run time, but currently it won’t let me change one of the settings. I keep getting an error that the table it is referring to is not valid. However, I know that it isn’t created because it gets created at run-time. Is there a way to change OLE DB sources? As always any help is appreciated.

|||

I fixed the problem. The package needed me to make an advanced edit instead of a normal one? Weird, but I don't care why it worked just because it worked. If anybody else is building a sql dba configuration database, mine is from a template by sqlmag, please PM me and we can work together on them.

This doesn't have to be a valid address.|||Hi Pete,
I have done as you suggested. Unfortunately, I just a get a different error

Did you get this as well before sorting the problem out?

Problem deploying reports

Hi,

I have an application that involves 3 components one of which is
Reports.
My system's configuration:
SQL 2000 - Default instance
SQL 2005 - Named instance (Instance1).

I provide the user with an option of selecting the SQL Server instance.
If the user chooses Instance1, then I need to deply the reports in SQL
2005.
The exceptions encountered during installation are logged in the Event
log.
When I do the installation for the in a machine, I always
get the following error in the event log:
Could not connect to the Report Server Database
http://<MachineName>/ReportingServices.asmx.
I tried giving the rs.exe options from commandline. I got an error like:

Error in DetermineReportUrlSecurity().

I don't have the exact error with me now.

Note that I do not get this error when I do the installation in a
machine where both default and named instances are SQL 2005.

Can anyone tell me why this happens?

Thanks,

Sandhya

Are you installing RS2005 on the same machine as RS 2000? If so you should be prompted to do a files only install, is that the case? If it is then I am not sure when you are seeing this error. During configuration? If you could provide the error message and a better description of exactly what you are doing, perhaps I can offer some help.|||

Hi,

I am deploying my reports during the time of installation of my application i.e., throwugh an msi. I deploy the reports using rs.exe command and any error encountered would be logged in event log.

While installing SQL 2005. I selected the option 'Install and configure' for Reporting Services component. I also verified that I am able to browse to the Reports page. So there is no problem with the configuration. Someone had a similar problem which I saw in another forum. There a solution was given as to disable the firewall/create exceptions for report server. But in my system the firewall is already disabled.

I am deploying my reports from the installer by giving the rs.exe command wherein I get the following error:
Could not connect to the Report Server Database
http://<MachineName>/ReportingServices.asmx.

I tried giving the rs.exe from the command line with -t parameter to trace the error.
Folowing is the exact error that I am getting:
Microsoft.ReportingServices.ScriptHost.ScriptHost.DetermineServerUrlSecuri
ty()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ScriptHost.ScriptHost.InstanceMain()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.BaseCmdLine.CommandLineMain(String[] args,
BaseCmdLine instance)

Why do I get this error?

Thanks,
Sandhya

Hi,

For Yukon, the default configuration for the Report page would be:

Hmm, It looks like you are doing everything that you should be. All the script host does at this point is call the soap method ListSecureMethods, using the ReportService2005.asmx endpoint. Your command looks correct and the server is up and running. I really don't know what would be causing this error.

The only thing I can think of is if the user you are running rs.exe as can not be authenticated with RS or RS is setup to use forms or basic auth. You could try using a different user, or if you are using basic auth, pass in the username and password options.

problem connecting to sqlexpress

Hi all,

I'm getting this error message from the ASP.NET configuration manager in VS 2005 Pro:

There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

I have no problem connecting using the sql server management studio tool.

I need help ASAP, can't afford the down time.

Thanks,
