Problem in doing a backup of database on SQL server through Java code using jdbc

Problem in doing a backup of database on SQL server through Java code
using jdbc
Statement callBackupDbase = con.createStatement();
String dbackup = "BACKUP DATABASE databaseName TO DISK = 'Path for the
backup file";
if(callBackupDbase != null){
callBackupDbase.execute(dbackup);
}
I get the following error
[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Cannot per
form a
backup or restore operation within a transaction.
Could anyone help me with that

a transaction and then
try to execute the backup command. See the error message. You need to make t
he jdbc API not open a
transaction for you. How you do that, I don't know, it would be a jdbc issue
, Perhaps in the
connection string, perhaps by using some other function calls in jdbc.

I suggest you ask this in a jdbc group. The problem is that your code opens a transaction and then
try to execute the backup command. See the error message. You need to make the jdbc API not open a
transaction for you. How you do that, I don't know, it would be a jdbc issue, Perhaps in the
connection string, perhaps by using some other function calls in jdbc.

Problem in BACKUP job

Hi,
I am using a job to take daily backup.
BACKUP DATABASE databasenameTO DISK=N'path'
WITH INIT,NOUNLOAD,NAME=N'name',
NOSKIP,STATS=10,NOFORMAT
and it was working fine.
When I tried to restore the backup, I couldn't restore it, the backup was
uncompleted(I know this only when i tried to restore it). But in Enterprise
manager Last Run Status shows 'Succeeded'.
Is there any option to check whether the backup is in good condition or to
check the integrity of the backup immediately after the completion of
backup(through query without restoring the backup).

Please try using RESTORE VERIFYONLY on your dodgy backup file - it might be
sufficient in this case.

Problem Doing SQL 2005 DB Restore - Media Families

I did a full DB backup that I am trying now to restore via the SQL Server Management Studio.

I select "Restore" and then "From Device" and point to the bak file that I want to restore from.

I then go into the Options page and check "Overwrite the existing database".

Below that, shows the Restore the database files as

RB_Data_Services_MSCRM

RB_Data_Services_MSCRM_Log

sysft_ftcat_documentindex

When I then click OK I get the following error. The Media Set has 3 Media Families but only 1 are provided. All members must be provided.

Any ideas as to what I did to do to be able to complete this restore?

Have you treid using RESTORE statement from query analyzer?|||Check that Database Name of the Database your are restoring matches that of the database your are resoring too.|||

Looks like you created a backup that spanned multiple media families. You need to add in all of the pieces of the backup that you took for this to work.|||

Michael,

I did not intend to have my backup span multiple media families but I guess that is what I did.

I was not able to use that backup but found one that I could use.

problem creating warm standby on 6.5

I have a 6.5 server with a production db on it. I created
a copy of that db on another server. I can apply the
backup dump from the prod server to the standby server
fine, but when I go to apply the logs from the prod
server, I get errors saying something like "log out of
sequence. dump was created at 11:00 pm, log at 10:00 am"
What's wrong?Can you should use the DUMP and LOAD commands that you are using?

is going on. I recommend that you use ISQLw and execute DUMP and LOAD
command instead. Then you can post these commands here.
Or you could run SQLTrace and catch the SQL commands issued by Enterprise
Manager as you navigate the dialogs there...

Problem Creating Login ID

I restored a database called 'MyDatabase' from a backup file. It created a user for me with the same name but no login with the same name. When I tried to create a login id with the same name (MyDataBase), it does not let me the same login id have privile
ges to access that database. I tried to do this under the 'Database Access' tab. Please help.

Execute "sp_change_users_login" procedure from the restored database. This
problem is because
the user inside the database will not have the appropriate Login master
database.
This link can be brought up by using the system procedure
sp_change_users_login .

Problem creating a Maintenance Plan

When trying to create a maintenance plan using the wizard to backup the
system databases in SQL 2005 the following error is displayed.
How can I find what is causing this problem with a simple maintenance
plan?

an SSIS package.
I've heard that you won't need this with sp2, but sp2 is still only in CTP.

Problem creating a Maintenance Plan

problem copying database to new server!

I am trying to copy a
dbase from one server to another so first created a backup file from source
server,then copied it to destination server. Then created an empty dbase
with same
name on destination server, then selected backup and created a backup file
dbase.bak. I then replaced the backup
file on the destination server with the one from the source server and tried
to restore
from that file. I get the following error, can not find file id 3 on device
c:\program files\...Backup\dbase.bak

Your problem is that the original file destination of the database is
stored in the backup file. SO it can be that the stored destination
folder isn=B4t present in your restore system. With specifying a new
restore destination while issueing the command (via GUI or via TSQL
[RESTORE DATABASE]) that should do the trick.

='c:\filebak' from sql analyzer simular to what you suggested and it worked.

problem copying database to new server!

I am trying to copy a
dbase from one server to another so first created a backup file from source
server,then copied it to destination server. Then created an empty dbase
with same
name on destination server, then selected backup and created a backup file
dbase.bak. I then replaced the backup
file on the destination server with the one from the source server and tried
to restore
from that file. I get the following error, can not find file id 3 on device
c:\program files\...Backup\dbase.bak
