problem in executing package in production environment

hi all!

This is my problem. My package executes fine when i set the connection string with the same database where i execute the query. If i execute with another database connection stirng if fails bacause while executing the pacakge it trys to access the same connection string at design mode.

when i try to execute through cmd prompt by setting \conn <new database connection string> it fails.

Is package configuration is the only solution. how can i change conn string depending on different server?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jas

As far as my knowledge, package configuration is the only one solution.|||

Package configurations will work but you'll need to reference the configuration at runtime. You can also use the /SET switch from dtexec.exe to set a property dynamically at runtime. If you're trying to set a connection string though, you can set it with the /Connection swtich. Try doing this from DtsExecUI.exe first to see if you have better luck then grab the command line from the last page down. Hope this helps!

i am currently trying to set the variable with the /set and give connection string as /conn but when i do it another environment and change the conn string it does not work. Now thats my problem. Now i am trying through package configuration but that too i have some issues. I don't want to use environment variable and cannot use parent pacakge varibale for this particular pacakge cos it is the main parent pacakge. I want to use registry key but if i give the value other than current user. it does not work. I am trying to use the HKEY_local machine /software / .../ .../ value. How doi set the registry key for this in pacakge configuration. And i also tried the config file. I works well through indirect method only in another environment where i need to set the environment variable to hold the path of the config file.

Is there any suggestions?

Thanks,

Problem in deployment of Crystal 10 with VB6

I've facing problem in creating the package for the application using VB6 and Crystal reports 10. What are the support files needed to be included in the package. I've already included Crviewer.dll,CRAXDRT.dll. But there is no response in the client machine.Whether Crystal Reports 10 need to be installed in client machine?

Problem importing from Oracle

Hello all, I hoping to get some input on how to get around this odd problem. I use the SSIS Import Wizard to create a package that imports data from an Oracle 9 database into SQL 2005. One of the 'columns' selected from Oracle is actually two floating point columns multiplied together.

ie: SELECT one * two FROM table

In the SSIS wizard the data preview for this shows up as it should, with the column data in floating point form. However after actually importing the data, all the numbers get imported as integers even though they are going into a floating point column.

Any ideas how to get around this?

Thanks

Try explicitly casting them as a float in the SELECT.

Problem getting DTS object to work on a Web form

Hi;

I would like to run a DTS package from the On click button event on a web form.

I tried using code that works in a windows form.

But ASP.net, VS 2005 doesn't like the code.

Here are the libraries that I used with the windows form.

Imports System,Imports System.Data.Imports System.Data.SqlClient.

Is there a library that I am missing ?

And here are the lines of code that won't compile:

Dim oPackageAsNew DTS.Package2Class

Dim oStepAs DTS.Step

Package.LoadFromSQLServer("123WXYZ\TRSQL", , , DTS.DTSSQLServerStorageFlags.DTSSQLStgFlag_UseTrustedConnection, , , ,"cpyPrinters2Excel", )

I am able to run the above in a windows form with no problem.

Thanks for any insights,

Gordon

Hi GMann,

The Imports statement only imports namespaces. It is not add reference to a certain library.

Since you're running DTS packages, you will need to reference the Microsoft DTSPackage Object (COM) Library(DTS.DLL). Use add reference from the Project menu.

HTH. If this does not answer you question, please feel free to mark it as Not Answered and post your reply. Thanks!

Problem exporting data using Excel destination (wrong format)

Hi there,

I have designed a package that works perfectly well, exporting data to an excel file from an ole db source. The problem is that in the excel destination file, columns of data that originally were numbers, are formatted as text. It would be just annoying if it weren't because I use those figures in a pivot table that operates with them.

Any idea on how to tell Excel that those columns are numbers?

Thx in advance

What is the original data type in the OLE DB source of those columns? If they are strings you may need tu use the Data Conversion transformation. Does the excel file already exists? if so, what are the format of the columns?

I run a quick test loading 100 rows od AdventureWorks.Sales.SalesOrderDetail table into an Excel file and all the data types mapped fine. The only thing is that I used the Excel Destination in BIDS to create the file and the destination tab using the 'Name of the excel sheet' -->New... button; it generated an statement like:

CREATE TABLE `Excel Destination` (
`SalesOrderID` INTEGER,
`SalesOrderDetailID` INTEGER,
`CarrierTrackingNumber` NVARCHAR(25),
`OrderQty` SMALLINT,
`ProductID` INTEGER,
`SpecialOfferID` INTEGER,
`UnitPrice` MONEY,
`UnitPriceDiscount` MONEY,
`LineTotal` NUMERIC (38,6),
`rowguid` UNIQUEIDENTIFIER,
`ModifiedDate` DATETIME
)

I only had to adjust the Numeric data type precision and I worked just fine.

Rafael Salas

|||

Thx for your answer Rafael.

The numeric data from the ole db data source is in four-byte signed int [DT_I4]. I have a data conversion between the ole db data source and the excel destination and I've tried to both leave the numeric fields unchanged and "convert" them into the same type. Regarding the excel file, I use a template pre-formatted that i copy into a new file through a system file task in the control flow. I've tried several formatting in the columns (general, numeric, etc...) to no avail...

I've also tried in the excel destination to create the worksheets in which I export the data through that "new button" and with a command very similar to the one you posted, with type for the numeric columns as INTEGER. If it worked for you I'm really confused then :/, I was beginning to think it could be a bug in excel.

Thx again

|||

Loslor,

I just looked into the details of mi excel destination file and compared how the data types from BIDS got mapped. I found that all my DT_I4, DT_I2, DT_WSTR and Numeric in BDIS have 'general' when I looked into the format of the cells in the Excel file. I also used the data in the excel file to build a pivot table and worked fine. Are you getting the same behavior?

CREATE TABLE `Excel Destination` (
`SalesOrderID` INTEGER, --> mapped from an DT_I4 in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'General' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`SalesOrderDetailID` INTEGER,

`CarrierTrackingNumber` NVARCHAR(25), --> mapped from an DT_WSTR in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'General' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`OrderQty` SMALLINT, --> mapped from an DT_I2 in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'General' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`ProductID` INTEGER,
`SpecialOfferID` INTEGER,
`UnitPrice` MONEY, --> mapped from an DT_CY in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'Currency' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`UnitPriceDiscount` MONEY,
`LineTotal` NUMERIC (38,6), --> mapped from a Numeric in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'General' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`rowguid` UNIQUEIDENTIFIER,--> mapped from an DT_DBTIMESTAMP in the dataflow; loaded in excel as 'Date' (when opening the execel file and look a the format of the cell)
`ModifiedDate` DATETIME
)

Rafael Salas

|||

Hi again,

Yes, my excell is doing the same. After exporting the data, all the cells have the format "General", though they are still treated as text. In fact, the numeric columns display a warning saying that "The number in the cell is formatted as text or preceded by apostrophe" (the last thing obviously being not true) and asks me if i want to reformat the cells, wich sounds a bit like a joke to me. The pivot table is still not getting right the data.

Thx Rafael

|||

Then it seems there is an issue in how excel treats the format 'general' in your side. As I told you I was able to generate the Pivot table regardless of the 'general' formating.

Sorry if I didnt hel you

Rafael Salas

I'm beginning to fight in that front since I don't see any problem in the package.

Thx a lot for your time Rafael

Problem executing the SSIS package using C# exe

Hi,

I am using C# exe to run the SSIS packages. I have placed the SSIS packages in a folder. So everytime i try to execute the SSIS through the exe i get the error "

An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user '[UserName]'.".

While creating the SSIS, i have saved the password. But when i open the SSIS to check I just see that the password field is blank.

Is there any other property which i need to set to keep the password saved forever?

Regards,

Search the online help for ProtectionLevel. The various settings for this package property will allow you to save the password in the package. Or you could use a configuration to store the password.

problem deploying SSIS to another server.

Hello, I am trying to deploy a SSIS package (using deployment utility create at build time) to a different server and ran into problem wonder if someone and direct me to the right path.

development environment: WIN XP, SQL 2005. package is built using server buisiness intelligence. Package content: connect to a "target"SQL2005server using OLE DB using SQL Login authentication to process data. The SQL 2005 DB is on a Win 2003 server (R2) as OS platform.

The package was built, install ( SQL not file system)and ran fine on the development environement; when attempt to deploy the package to the SQL 2005 server where data reside and should be processed (also install to SQL), I receive error " 0x80004005 ...description TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine activily refuse it". which is an odd error since the package is on the server that it try to connect to the data base on it.

If anyone can give me some hint at what cause this problem, appreciate the help.

Not sure, but have you checked that the SQL Server Integration Services service is running on the target machine?|||Yes, that the first thing I check, via surface area configuration and administration tools -> Services both confirmed that the Ingergrated services is started and running.

Problem creating folder through package

hi !

I am creating a directory folder inside the package. At first attempt while running the package it creates without any errors but when i run it second time it throws up warning message : Directory already exists. but the package succeeds.

When i try running it from another server through command line it fails. saying that Device it not Ready.

What is the proble here !!!!!!! Any help please

Jas

Guess you should be getting some error like the following - "Error: 0xC002F304 at File System Task, File System Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "The device is not ready."

Please check whether the drive and the path to the folder which you are trying to create exist in the Server.

Thanks,
Loonysan

|||

yes it does!!!!!

When i tried duplicating this problem from my machine accecssing a drive which was not there i got the same error SO i could understand that the drive and path should be correct to create the directory. When i tried the correct drive and path it work.

what are the methods to find what else the probelm could be? Permissions etc.

Thanks,

Jasmine

You need to define the transformations first before you can click OK.
The text file must be defined with column names and then the
transformations can be assigned.|||I am actually using the remote connection to work directly on the
server.
i was able to get it to work if i selected some of the columns, but not
all. Is there a limit on the number of columns?
Let me explain in more detail.
When i am setting up the transform data task, I build the query and
then go to the destination tab. I click the Execute button to define
the columns for the destination.
The problem is that when i select all the columns from the table then
nothing happens when i click Execute. There are no columns defined and
when i click on the Define Columns button it gives an error and
terminates Enterprise Manager.
I am not sure whats going on. Really appreciate your help

I figured out a fix without having to upgrade to SP4. If you don't
upgrade your client tools to SP3 on your computer you don't have the

tools on my machine (not on the server). There were no issues. Its

What service pack is SQL Server running on? That may be part of the
issue if you have a large amount of columns to export.|||Its running on SP3.|||Mohan wrote:

I figured out a fix without having to upgrade to SP4. If you don't
upgrade your client tools to SP3 on your computer you don't have the
errors. I had to uninstall my client tools and re-install the client
tools on my machine (not on the server). There were no issues. Its
not a pretty fix, but I can always use any new functionality on the
server itself. Good luck.

problem creating directory

I have a package that calculates a date, downloads a zip file and then the problems begin.. I WANT to have it create a folder using the same filename (left of the .zip) but my problem appears to be how I'm doing this. It is a calculated variable that has scope for the whole package. I set the source property to false and hard coded the parent directory and then have an expression that concatenates the constant (parent) directory with the global variable and my intent is to use this in place of the source value for the create directory (I then unzip the file into that directory and have a for each loop to process said files and rename them). My problem is that, for some reason, VS calculates the expression and I get an error that says The connection xxxxxx is not found. This error is thrown by the Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found. (xxxxxx is the calculated direcotry and is correct). Why is it doing this calculation and erroring, its job is to create the folder? Thanks in advance.I'm guessing that either you are setting the wrong property, or the package is checking to see if the directory exists before the task to create it has run. You make make sure that DelayValidation is set to TRUE on all appropriate tasks.|||John, you were correct in that it was the wrong property (thank you)! Interestingly enough I also wasn't aware of the delay validation option so both of you responses were very helpful. thanks much!!!

Problem creating a job step to execute a SSIS package

Hello all,

I am having a problem creating a job step that will run a SSIS package. I go to add a job step (or edit an existing one), but when I select 'SQL Server Integration Services Package' as the type, an error box pops up with the following message:

The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) (SqlManagerUI)

After I hit OK, it goes back to the 'New Job Step' window and makes me select a different step type.

I am running on a Win2000 Advanced Server with SP4, a default instance of SQL2000 with SP4, and a named instance of SQL2005.

Does anyone know what is wrong or of a workaround?

Thanks in advance for any and all help/comments.

You should probably post to the agent forum since this is an agent problem not an SSIS problem.

Thanks,
Matt

Whatever the problem was, restarting the server fixed it. I hadn't restarted the server since I installed SQL2005, because the install didn't require a reboot. I had a chance to do so over the weekend and when I checked on this problem, it was gone.

All is good now.

Thanks!

Problem converting UTC dates in dts

Can anyone help me convert UTC dates in a dts package? I have a db I need to transform, but all the dates are in utc format. Is there a function I can use in an ActiveX transformation script to convert, say, 38166, to a valid datetime value? There seems to be almost no documentation in using utc in SQL.How is that a UTC time?

http://www.dxing.com/utcgmt.htm|||I'll try...but for the record i dont think 38166 is a valid UTC date.
Please correct me if i'm wrong.

here is what i thougght UTC date looked like:

2004-07-01T16:15:30

SQL server CAST and CONVERT will handle this for you, by default.|||But your example does somewhat resemble a Julian date...|||But your example does somewhat resemble a Julian date...
1938?

or 2038?

But yeah it looks more julian..|||My vote is for 2008, since the Unix epoch is based on 1970.

-PatP|||I'll go with thta...(since I wrote a udf for that one once)...god damn toolbox...got to clean this damn thing out...

Wait a minute...|||i bet there'll be a party or 2 ~3:15 on Jan 19 2038

the end of the world as we know it.

:D|||you've got a julian date converting UDF?

Oooooo...i've wanted to do that but never had a project that required it.

Care to share??
:)|||I wrote one ages ago for military style Julian dates, and just posted it a day or two ago. Check here (http://www.dbforums.com/t1003180.html) for details.

-PatP|||thanks much.

sorry for the thread hijack chunky,
did you get a decent answer for the original post?

perhaps you could post an example of the date string you are dealing with, if not?
