Problem in Installing SQL Server Management Studio

Hi all, i have already installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional Addition, due to which the following components have been installed on my computer

My visual studio 2005 professional edition is working correctly, but now i want to install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. I have a CD on which i have following folders

1.SQL Kit and Reporting Services(this folder contains folowing setups,

SQLServer2005_SSMSEE,

SQLEXPR_ADV,

SQLEXPR_TOOLKit)

2.Database Publising Wizard 1.0 RC(this folder contains a setup named as Database Publising Wizard 1.0 RC)

3.Book folder contains a setup named as SqlServer2k5_BOL_june2006

My problem is that, i don't know in which sequence i have to run these setups, so that the management studio successfully insatlled on my computer. If anybody understands my problem, plz help.

It looks like you have SQL 2005 Express Edition. To install the Express version of SSMS, run the setup or installer in SQLServer2005_SSMSEE .

problem in inserting an integer into a database table

i am using visual web developer 2005 and SQL Express 2005 with VB as the code behind

i want to insert an integer into my database table and this is my code

"i" is declared at the top of the page like this

when i run the program i get the error

input string is not in the correct format

what is wrong in my code ?

you are treating your variable "i" as a literal character

try it like this:

Problem in insert a datetime into SqlServer 2005

I user Visual Studio 2005 64 bit ,windowxp 64 bit ,sqlserver 2005

The Sql statement : "insert into sickleave (StaffID,sickLeaveReason,DateStart,DateEnd,RegistrationDate) values (20001,'test',28/3/2006,4/5/2006,4/5/2006 ) "

and the result in Datebase (All the time become 1/1/1900 0:00:00 )

Although i change the datetype from datetime to smalldatetime the result is same

and i try input the date 28/3/2006 0:00:00 into server but

it show the error:Incorrect syntax near '0'.

What wrong ? help me please,Thank.

They have to be passed as strings:
insert into sickleave (StaffID,sickLeaveReason,DateStart,DateEnd,RegistrationDate) values (20001,'test','3/28/2006','5/4/2006','5/4/2006' ) "
or as ISO values which is preferable
insert into sickleave (StaffID,sickLeaveReason,DateStart,DateEnd,RegistrationDate) values (20001,'test',20060328,20060405,20060405 ) "

Your date is in the future (28th of March this year). That is not allowed:

The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.

I prefer to use dates in the following format 'yyyy-mm-dd'.

problem in deploying the website developed in visual web developer 2005

Hi,

I am new to asp.net.I am trying to deploy the website on IIS created in visual web developer 2005 express.I am having problem with the aspnetdb.mdf for login.
I have copied my entire contents to the physical directory( shared floder),from where the iis virtual directory can access the contents.I can see my login form but when i enter my username and password and click login it gives my error
"error occured in establishing the connection".

I am using the sql server 2005.I don't know what should i do with aspnetdb.mdf?

1) You can only have one open context connection at a time within a clr procedure ("context connection=true"). Is it possible that in the missing code snippets for your example (...'s) that you are attempting to open another context connection? For instance, calling Triggers.Connection(true) again anywhere prior to the Triggers.Connection(false) call would result in this exception. The call stack where the "Connection already in use" exception is thrown would be useful to track down this cause.

2) June CTP has a couple of bugs where an exception, especially if due to an attention (i.e. cancel) signal, can cause the connection to not properly clean itself up from one invocation of the procedure to the next. This problem would not be apparent on first invocation of the proc, and would temporarily be cleared by running "DBCC FREEPROCCACHE".

One other question I have is how you get the SqlConnection from the CLRTriggers() method to the Test() method. It would appear that the "con" field must be static, true? If this is the case, you will almost certainly run into problems, since your trigger can fire on multiple threads, yet the SqlConnection object is valid only in the procedure in which it was created.

I'd like to note that the recommended use pattern for SqlConnection (and cmd.ExecuteReader) is to put them in a "using" statement to guarantee cleanup and help see the lifetime scope of the connection. i.e.

using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("context connection = true")) {
con.Open();
...
}

and

using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) {
...
}

Problem Export - Works on dev computer, not on other ones...

I have a problem exporting report with Crystal Report for Visual Studio .NET 2002.
In fact, with the computer I used to program, the export works fine. I've tried to get my .NET project on another computer, and there the export doesn't work...
The error occurs on the line : report.Export(); When I catch it, it says "Echec de connexion", which means "Connection failed".

Here are my config :

- The "good" computer : Win 2000 Server with last SP's, VS.NET 2002, Crystal Report for VS .NET

- The "bad" one : same one...

I also tried on an Xp computer, and it doesn't work either...

I've tried the Modules utility from Business Object to see if DLL's were missing on "bad" computer, but it's quite hard to define ('have to see the DLL under aspnet_wp.exe process, haven't I ?)

I install all services packs and hotfixes for Crystal Report for VS .NET 2002...It doesn't change anything.

So, if you have any idea, it would be welcomed !! Thanks.Check to make sure all the required Export dlls are installed on the "bad" computer.

Each Export format (Excel, pdf, etc) and each Export Destination (Aplication, Disk, etc) has to have a dll installed on the machine it's running on. If, for example, you can export to pdf, but not to Excel, your problem may be that the dll required for Excel Export is missing.

In Crystal Reports 8.5, there's a file called runtime.hlp that tells exactly what dlls are required depending on what your application uses.

(Ex. For CR 8.5 and Win2k, my Excel export dll is: C:\WINNT\Crystal\u2fxls.dll and my dll for Exporting to Application is: C:\WINNT\Crystal\u2dapp.dll)

Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information." I used a domain account with local administrator privilege to install. I doubt whether my domain policy affect the installation. Could someone tell me what security policy I should set to allow the installation of the Visual Studio .NET 2005 Professional on a domain PC.

The domain PC is Windows XP Prof. with SP2 _ latest patches installed. The installation is run by a domain account which has local administrator privilege on the domain PC.

Looks like if SQL Server 2005 RTM is installed in a Domain where a windows Group named 'sa', 'SA', 'Sa' or 'sA' exists, installation fails when Integrated Security is chosen. However, despite having the Windows group in the Domain, installation with Mixed Security work fine. After having installed successfully with Mixed Secuirty, the server properties can be changed to accept Integrated Security connections only. This should work.

Problem deploying custom report item. Items shows in preview screen in VS, but not in server dep

I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:

1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio

2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:

<ReportItem Name="PedigreeChart" Type="Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.PedigreeChartRenderer, Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart" />
</ReportItems>

3. Updated the rssrvpolicy.config file with the following entry.

PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Description="This code group grants Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll FUllTrust permission. ">

This is particularly frustrating because the report works fine in Visual Studio - apparently I configured that correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm stumped.

I ended up granting all assemblies on the server fulltrust, which wasn't my preference but seemed to take care of the issue. However I'm still not sure if that was the item that fixed things. What I am sure about was that is was some configuration issue and not an assembly problem in my case because all I did was srcrew with the configuration for a while. It was a frustrating experience and I'm sorry I can't help more.|||

I hab the same problem in the beginning. What solved it for me was that ALL assemblies being used by the CRI have to be trusted, including unmanaged C++ DLLs if there are any. First I listed each DLL but then I gave all my DLLs a strong name and now it works with only the strong name membership condition.

For debugging I enabled something named like 'assembly load logging' on the local report server. I also tried attaching to the worker process in order to read the debugging messages in VS if I remember that right.

I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:

1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio

2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:

</ReportItems>

3. Updated the rssrvpolicy.config file with the following entry.

Description="This code group grants Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll FUllTrust permission. ">
<IMembershipCondition
class="UrlMembershipCondition"

</CodeGroup>

I've also tried using the StrongNameMembershipCondition with no better results.

4. The dll and its dependencies are copied to the bin directory of the report server.

5. When I load a report with this custom report item on it, the report loads fine with no errors or warnings in the log file (even with verbose tracing). The area where the custom item should be is just white. It's almost like Reporting Services isn't registering the item correctly.

This is particularly frustrating because the report works fine in Visual Studio - apparently I configured that correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm stumped.

|||I got it working, but I'm honestly not sure what I did to get it to work. I ended up granting all assemblies on the server fulltrust, which wasn't my preference but seemed to take care of the issue. However I'm still not sure if that was the item that fixed things. What I am sure about was that is was some configuration issue and not an assembly problem in my case because all I did was srcrew with the configuration for a while. It was a frustrating experience and I'm sorry I can't help more.|||

I hab the same problem in the beginning. What solved it for me was that ALL assemblies being used by the CRI have to be trusted, including unmanaged C++ DLLs if there are any. First I listed each DLL but then I gave all my DLLs a strong name and now it works with only the strong name membership condition.

For debugging I enabled something named like 'assembly load logging' on the local report server. I also tried attaching to the worker process in order to read the debugging messages in VS if I remember that right.

Problem creating report server project in VS2005 and SQL Server Reporting Services 2000 SP

I have SQL Server Reporting Services 2000 (SP2) installed.
If I try and create a Report Server project in Visual Studio 2005, I get the
error:
Project Factory is unable to create an instance of :
Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Project.ReportProjectManager ...
If I try and do this in VS.NET - things seem to work just fine. Is there
anything I can do?

Michael PNo. VS 2003 works wtih RS 2000 designer, VS2005 works with RS 2005 designer.
You can create a RS 2000 report and deploy to a RS 2005 server. You cannot
create a 2005 report and deploy to RS 2000.
RS 2000 is a framework 1.1 app, RS 2005 is a framework 2.0 app. Also, they
both have hooks into the respective IDEs.

problem connecting to the database

Hi...

I just started to go through the "Microsoft visual c# 2005 step by step" I noticed on page 412 when i try to connect to the database, it says tochoose "Microsoft SQL server" from the Choose datasource menu. But I dont have Microsoft SQL Server. There are only "Microsoft Access Database file" and "Microsoft SQL Server Database File" and not "Microsoft SQL Server".

Please Help

thanks for the reply arnie.... yes i did install the free sql server 2005 express.... i still cant figure it out... i used the commands at the dos prompt to configure the SQL server like it says in the book and everything was good...

then i used sqlcmd -S yourserver\SQLExpress - E -iinstnwnd.sql

That was also successfull....

still i dont see "microsoft SQL server" in the choose datasource section. But i do see "Microsoft SQL server database file".

|||VS Express is not able to connect to SQL Server Express in the GUI (locked down feature) but you can programmtically access the Server.
